The origins of the Kabaka of the Buganda kingdom begin with the History of the Buganda Kingdom itself.
The origins of the Kabaka, or king, of the Buganda kingdom are found in Buganda tradition that states that the Kabaka is a direct descendant of the first king of the kingdom, Kintu.
The Buganda kingdom was founded in the 14th century by Kintu and his wife, Nambi.

In terms of the Kintu Buganda Kingdom origin story, it is said that Kintu found a bag of cowrie shells (a form of currency at the time) on the banks of Lake Victoria.

The Kabaka of the Buganda Kingdom, is also the supreme ruler and the Kabaka is believed to be descended from the first king of the Buganda people, Kintu.
The Kabaka of the Buganda Kingdom is believed to be the earthly representative of the God Mukasa, who is the creator God of the Baganda people.
As such, the Kabaka is considered to be semi-divine and above ordinary mortals.Â
The current Kabaka of the Buganda Kingdom resides at the Lubiri palace in Kampala, Uganda’s capital city. He is married to Queen Sylvia Nagginda and has four children: Prince David Kintu Wasajja, Princess Zahira Tukiika Ssengonzi, Prince Mateo Walubi Lukonge, and Prince Jospeh Mayanja Nkangi.
